North Nanaimo
The north end of Nanaimo has undergone a vast expansion in the past 10-15 years, with major development in residential housing and commercial ventures. New schools, parks and trail systems have also been implemented into the overall planning. The north end has a good mix of condominiums, townhomes, patio homes and single family homes. North Nanaimo is home to Woodgrove Mall, Rutherford Mall, Longwood Station, the Real Canadian Superstore, Home Depot, Canadian Tire and a wide variety of restaurants, pubs, parks and beaches.  

  

Departure Bay
The heart of Departure Bay is it’s beautiful beaches, water parks & playgrounds. Facing Newcastle Island and home to the ferry terminal. Offering mature neighbourhoods, Nanaimo Golf Club (an 18-hole championship course,) 3 elementary schools, a high school, offices/retail, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Country Club & Brooks Landing Shopping Centre’s. Truly a picturesque area with lots of activity!
  

Hammond Bay
A popular oceanside community with well established neighbourhoods & beautiful parks. Home to Pipers Lagoon Park, built on an isthmus that extends out to a rocky headland. This 8 hectare park is ideal for bird watching, a favorite swimming hole and popular for year round beachcombing. Another favorite is Neck Point Park, offering an excellent trail system showcasing the diverse terrain, dive facilities, picnicking areas and special viewpoints or lookouts highlight the spectacular scenery surrounding the park. Hammond Bay has its own french emersion elementary school and the brand new Frank Ney elementary school. Within minutes from all north & central amenities, this is a beautiful area to reside!  

  

Jingle Pot
The Jingle Pot area offers a real mix of living from rural properties to newer subdivisions. Easily accessible from both ends of the parkway, just minutes to all amenities. Offering an elementary school, a convenience store, recreation and a pub/restaurant. Home to Westwood Lake Park a 106 hectare park at the base of Mt. Benson, offering a 6km walking trail around the lake, a sandy beach popular for swimming & picnicing, playgrounds and camping.  
  

Divers Lake
A smaller community in a central location just seconds to Beban Park Recreation Complex offering activities for everyone including swimming, skating, tennis, playgrounds, basketball, golf, lawn bowling, multi-use trails and playing fields. The community offers a beautiful park/lake (Divers Lake Park) just off Labieux Road enjoying excellent walking trails, a playground, fitness circuit, picnic tables and a fishing dock. A popular area with families, offering newer subdivisions as well as mature, established neighbourhoods.  

  

Central Nanaimo
A great mix of commercial, residential and recreation. Central Nanaimo offers affordable housing and close proximity to all of Nanaimo’s amenities. Home to Terminal Park Plaza, Bowen Park Recreation Complex, Buttertubs Marsh Sanctuary, a variety of elementary schools, Woodlands High School, Pryde Golf Course and lots of shopping plaza’s, offices & retail outlets.  
  

Old City
Over the past couple of years, an enormous amount of time and energy has been devoted to revitalizing the downtown core. Downtown Nanaimo is the heart of the city, a unique place because of the harbour and the history evident in heritage sites, events and the physical design. Downtown attracts residents, business, government, professional services and tourists because of its beauty, spectacular waterfront, excellent transportation links, arts and cultural events & facilities, culinary attractions, diverse shopping and lifestyle opportunities. All within a positive and strong economic environment.
  

South Nanaimo
South Nanaimo is community with an abundance of single family dwellings, rental units, shopping and schools. Most area’s are very affordable to reside, popular with families & students as it is home to Malaspina University College. The area also offers Collier Dam Park, a 28 hectare park that is popular for swimming in the summer and a wonderful retreat any time of the year and Morrel Sanctuary. Both the Parkway Trail and Trans Canada Trail cross the park. In addition a new aquatic centre has been built, offering an Olympic size pool (52 metre’s), a whirl pool, steam room, sauna and a fitness room.
  

Chase River
A mostly residential community, peaceful & picturesque. Offering a brand new elementary school in Cinnabar Valley, Chase River Elementary School, Trofton Ball Park and Southgate Shopping Plaza  
  

Cedar
Cedar is located south of Nanaimo, a quiet rural area with an abundance of farms & acreages. Home to Roberts Memorial Provincial Park, Blue Heron Park, Yellowpoint Provincial Park & Hemer Provincial Park. Excellent for picnics and hikes. You’ll also find a wide array of craft shops and cottage industries. Cedar has it’s own Elementary School & a High School. Cedar offers a real contrast to the city, with its rolling landscapes and rural setting.
