The biggest selling feature in Pleasant Valley is Brannen Lake, in fact most of the homes in this Nanaimo neighbourhood were built in close proximity to the lake, which has a boat and a small public swimming area. The neighbourhood is also close to Uplands and Long Lake. Historically Pleasant Valley was mostly a rural area within the City but was developed around 1980s so some of the homes are relatively more modern. There are also a number of mobile homes and mobile home parks in the neighbourhood. Another major benefit for Pleasant Valley is that it is in close proximity to two major shopping centres. The first, which is just north of the neighbourhood, is the Woodgrove Centre and the second, which is just east, is the Nanaimo North Town Centre. Aside from the lake, which is a very popular recreation area, there is also one park in the neighbourhood, which is Camcrest Park.
