Most of the top Nanaimo real estate agents agree that South Nanaimo is the next up-and-coming neighbourhood in the city.  Although it has been known as the “rough part of town,” new development in the area is quickly changing that perception. Its water-front views and proximity to the downtown core are just some of the qualities that make this neighbourhood so attractive. The city is also revitalizing the South End’s cultural atmosphere and recently created Nanaimo Centre Stage theatre, which is located on Victoria Road. Nanaimo’s South End also has a rich history in the development of the city. In the 1890s it was known as the South Ward and was home to working class families. The community is relatively close to the University Village Mall, which also borders the University District.
